Reading Mark 14 – As I read verses 32-36 where Jesus prayed that God would “take this cup from me”, the Holy Spirit challenged me to understand that genuine obedience is not doing something that I would normally do, but in doing something that would be the last thing in the world I would do. It doesn’t take a lot obedience to go to Bible study and church on Sunday, but it does take a lot of obedience to witness to my neighbor. It doesn’t take a lot of obedience to read my lesson Saturday evening, but it does take a lot obedience to spend time in the Word and prayer every day. It reminds me of Peter and the other disciples as recorded in Acts 5 where they were arrested for “teaching in His name”. Even in fear of their life they replied “We must obey God rather than men!” That would have been the last thing the worldly part of me would have done. But, that is genuine obedience. Lord, may I respond with a faithful heart to your calling. Every minute of every day! May Your will be done…because I want to be obedient.
